What to do to Repair Minor Damages to Your HVAC System

Even though you’re extremely careful with taking care of your HVAC system, you can’t deny that there will be those uneventful and inevitable times that it decides to work improperly. What’s worse is that the summer heat is drawing closer, and you might not survive the sweltering temperature levels without air-conditioning (so to speak).

After all, there’s nothing worse than realizing that it’s going to be a scorcher outside but your AC won’t be up for the task. Even though you might want a service to handle the repairs for your HVAC system, these professionals work on a tight schedule. Hence, you can’t say that they should be there within the day if they already have other people’s system to attend to. With that in mind, there are some minor repair jobs that you can do to your HVAC system, even without the help of professionals.

Fixing a Low Refrigerant

If everything within the system seems to be up and running, but the air-conditioning doesn’t seem to do a very good job in cooling your home, then it could be because the device now has low refrigerant. Search within the confines of the HVAC unit and see if you can find a leak. If it’s just a small leak, then you can take advantage of a Freon leak repair kit to properly deal with the issue. If the leak is larger than anticipated, then you might want to schedule for professional HVAC system repairs and tough it up for now until the experts arrive at the scene.

Fixing a Frozen Coil

Aside from checking if the HVAC unit has low refrigerant, you should also verify if the coils are frozen. If the coil (or coils) is indeed frozen, then it might be signs of low refrigerant or insufficient air flow. If it’s the former, then do check the previous section on how to remedy the situation. However, if the problem is insufficient air flow, then you should set the fan of the system to run continuously so that it can properly melt the ice away.

Fixing a Blower That’s Not Working

If the blower is somehow not running, then the first thing you have to check is the circuit breakers. The usual issue with such a scenario is when there’s a tripped breaker. Simply replace the faulty breaker, and the system should be up and running once more.
